My husband is struggling...
What can I do?
If your husband is struggling with sexual or relational sin, here are a few positive steps you can take:
- Encourage him to get help... through professional Christian counseling, support groups, mentorship, and accountability. If he is open to getting help, the Love In Action counseling team is here to support and equip him to renew and deepen his connection with God, pinpoint the root causes of his struggles, learn healthy relationship-building, and lay a foundation for restoration in your marriage.
- Let go… You didn’t cause your husband’s problem, and you can’t fix it. Jesus said our problem with sin ultimately stems from our own hearts, not from an outside source. (Mark 7:20-22) The Bible also teaches that only God can change someone’s heart. (Acts 16:14) Let him take the lead in his recovery while you pray for him and focus on the things you can control.
- Reach out… Don’t try to go through this alone! The Bible says that we need to help “bear each other’s burdens,” and that we should face the ordeals of life in this communal context. (Galatians 6:1-2; James 5:13-16) Reach out for support from other godly women of grace whom you trust. Build yourself a “support team!”
- Get help for yourself… through professional Christian counseling, support groups, or intensive programs. The LIA team can work with you to rekindle your walk with Christ, identify and address personal strongholds, and build healthier, stronger relationships.
